Predator Hunting FAQ

Get clear answers to common predator hunting questions, from gear selection to tactics used by experienced hunters.

The best time to hunt coyotes is early morning and late evening when they are most active. Night hunting can also be extremely effective, especially in areas with hunting pressure. Weather and local conditions can influence movement, so adapting your approach is key.

Red and green lights are commonly used because they are less likely to spook predators. Red is often preferred for coyotes, while green can offer better visibility. Infrared (IR) is ideal when using night vision or thermal optics.

No, mouth calls are very effective and widely used by experienced hunters. Electronic calls are helpful for beginners and allow you to position sound away from your location.

A crosswind or slight quartering wind is ideal. Predators will often try to circle downwind, so your setup should anticipate and intercept that movement.

Most stands last between 15 and 30 minutes. In pressured areas, shorter stands can be effective, while low-pressure areas may justify longer setups.

At minimum, you need a firearm, a predator call, and camouflage. Many hunters also use lights, shooting sticks, and electronic calls to improve effectiveness.
