Replacing A Reed In A Rubber Bushing
Rubber bushings hold one or more reeds and can make reed replacement straightforward. The bushing itself may also be replaceable if it hardens, tears, or no longer grips the reed securely.
Use the same hole configuration that the call was built around. A single-hole bushing holds one reed; a two-hole bushing allows a two-reed installation.
Do not assume the 7/32 or 9/32 JC direct/sleeve dimensions apply to a rubber bushing. Match the body to the actual bushing specification.
Restore A Closed Reed's Tuning Carefully
If the old reed had a slight upward bend, the new reed may sound different when installed straight from the package. That does not mean the new reed is wrong.
