25 JC Products Reed Sleeves. Used be many custom call builders as receptacle for inserting and holding JC Product reeds into call bodies. Sleeves are 1 inch long with a true .258" diameter taper from .260". Very handy for use with wood body calls.
Key Functions of Reed Sleeves:
- Friction Fit & Security: Tapered sleeves provide a tight, compressive fit that keeps the delicate reed assembly locked firmly in place without requiring permanent glue.
- When wood contracts in dry or cold weather (wood loses moisture, the grain shrinks outward, which actually enlarges the drilled hole) the inner bore of the wood barrel expands slightly and loosens, causing a reed alone (a reed without a sleeve) to lose its friction fit which can allow the reed to fall completely out of the call body.
- Easy Tuning & Maintenance: Because they are not glued in, sleeves allow the builder or user to easily pull, adjust, or replace the reed assembly for cleaning or re-tuning.
- Air-Seal Optimization: They minimize unwanted "blow-by" (air leaking around the sides of the voice unit), directing air cleanly over the reed for consistent backpressure and sound clarity.
