Tone Board Selection Is Reed Selection
The tone board determines where the reed is supported and how the air reaches it. Curvature affects the relationship between lip pressure and vibrating length. The air channel affects pressure and how easily the reed lifts.
A long reed on a short or steep board may not behave like the same reed on a gradual board. Likewise, a thin reed may feel overly sensitive on one board and perfectly controlled on another.

A reed can have a beautiful pitch range and still be wrong if it only works at one air pressure.
Test the start threshold, quiet heavy-cover volume, normal hunting pressure, and strong open-country pressure. Record where the reed becomes unstable.
The useful field range is the part of the air map where the sound remains controllable—not the maximum pressure the reed can survive.
Install The Candidate In The Real Body Before Finalizing
Body bore, bell shape, material, and exhaust change back pressure and resonance. A tone-board/reed combination tested in a bare fixture may feel different after the full call body is attached.
