Dan Thompson Windriver Howler FAQ

The Dan Thompson Windriver Howler is designed to attract coyote, fox, bear, and other predators. This compact long-range howler produces rabbit distress sounds, rabbit cries, and coyote vocalizations at a higher pitch than the larger Dan Thompson howlers. Its higher-pitched tone makes it a useful option when hunters want a predator call that can create realistic distress sounds and coyote communication from one wood mouth call.

This open reed mouth call requires some to moderate practice to master. Learning proper lip placement, air pressure, and reed control takes time, especially when producing higher-pitched coyote vocalizations and rabbit distress sounds. Once mastered, the Windriver Howler gives hunters a compact and versatile way to create realistic predator sounds with strong pitch control and long-range calling capability.

Use the Windriver Howler when you want a higher-pitched predator call for coyote vocalizations or rabbit distress sounds. It is especially useful when calling coyotes, foxes, bear, and other predators with sounds that need to carry across distance. Its smaller 3 1/4-inch megaphone makes it a compact option compared to the larger Red Desert and Sweetwater howlers.

The Dan Thompson Windriver Howler stands out because it delivers the versatility of the larger Red Desert and Sweetwater howlers in a smaller, higher-pitched design. First, I love Dan Thompson's closed end calls and not only own most of them but highly recommend them. With that being said I was not as impressed with the howler line up. I bot this on a friends recommendation and he puts out good sound with it. Despite it's size it takes quite a bit of wind to howl with it and it is not as easy to blow as my carver howlers or my lil' dog. However, when you hit the sweet spot it does sound good and it is versatile therefore the 4 star rating. I just feel that, although it is not near as tough to blow as it's older brother the Red Desert, it does make you work for it a bit.
